Congratulations Sadiq Khan!!!

A long, hard fought campaign ending up with a well deserved Labour victory

Sadiq Khan is now Mayor of London in a resounding result beating the rich privileged Tory Zac Goldsmith.

According to the BBC website

Mr Khan took 1,310,143 votes after second preferences were taken into account, beating Conservative Zac Goldsmith into second place on 994,614, a margin of victory of 13.6%. His tally gave him the largest personal mandate of any politician in UK history.

Sadiq carried out the campaign with humility and strength despite what many see as a racist campaign carried out by Goldsmith and his puppet masters at Conservative Party HQ. Perhaps Zac will sit back and contemplate the error of going down that route. London deserves better from it’s potential leaders.

Sadiq has a lot to do to sort out a moribund GLA lead by a absent landlord for the best part of the eight years Boris was in charge With a Labour majority on the GLA we can move London forward for Londoners, building affordable homes, improving Transport and improving our environment.

Congratulations to Sam Russell – Bexley & Bromley’s Labour Candidate. It was always going to be a hard ask to get him elected but to come 2nd upping the Labour vote from 40,714 to 45,791 is very creditable

The last words come fromTim Fisher, our Orpington CLP Campaign Coordinator – from part of an email sent to members on Wednesday 4th May 2016

This has been a long campaign, we have been delivering leaflets since well before Christmas. Today we delivered the last 500 leaflets, bringing our total for the campaign to almost 75,000 leaflets. We have delivered to more than 600 roads in Orpington, many of them in areas we have never been to previously.

We could not have achieved such a fantastic performance without the help of lots of members, so a great big thank you to you all.
