Unite’s fight for their members is our fight to retain local democracy in Bromley, says Nigel de Gruchy, Secretary of the Orpington Labour Party.
The Orpington Labour Party is supporting the march organised by the trade union Unite against the wholesale privatisation of services by the London Borough of Bromley’s Tory dominated Council.
Please come along to Norman Park at 12 noon, Saturday 13 June, for a march through the centre of Bromley.
Unite members are currently taking strike action against massive privatisation in Bromley. Experience shows privatisation ends up costing citizens more for inferior services, with thousands of jobs being lost, and those employees left suffering pay cuts and worsened conditions.
Local democracy will be obliterated in Bromley as the ‘Council’ is reduced to a commissioning agency doling out contracts under the pernicious practice of commercial confidentiality to the private sector or to foreign government agencies.
I have rescued the Orpington Labour Party’s banner from the proverbial garage and it will be standing tall in Norman Park by 12 noon. I also need some volunteers to help carry the banner on the march so please let me know you are coming!
