A day out at the Cray Festival

On Saturday 5th July the Orpington Labour Party set up a stall at the annual Cray Festival. We had a great day out and spoke with lots of people who told us they were pleased to see us taking an active role in the community. Despite the election result, they wanted us to hold the Tories to account for all their election promises.

Orpington Labour at the Cray FestivalDuring the day we collected signatures for an Orpington Foodbank petition, organised by the Community Care Protection Group. The petition calls on Bromley Council to drop its £8,400 a year rent demand, and replace it with a peppercorn rent. Despite the occasional shower, we had people queuing to sign the petition.

We also marked the 66th birthday of the NHS. Reminding people that the NHS is only safe under Labour, and that Labour will reverse the Tory reorganisation that puts profits before patients.

From where we were standing, the Tory presence was largely ignored. And when we asked one of the Tory Councillors about the Waste4Fuel shambles, the only response we got was – I’m not prepared to discuss the issue.

More notable was the lack of Liberal Democrats. It seems they’ve given up on the Crays, despite having two Councillors.
