Why is Stephen Carr afraid to appoint women to his Cabinet? Is it because the spectre of the Iron Lady herself emotionally scarred him in his formative years?
Or is it because he worries that he will be outshone by a woman? Or because there is self-preservation at stake here and he feels safer surrounded by a Cabinet comprising of people of a similar ilk to himself – men in grey suits.
Yet again, Bromley remains the only London Borough without a woman councillor in the role of Portfolio Holder and in a Cabinet. The unwillingness of Councillor Carr to include a woman in his top team is a sad reflection on his judgement and leadership and sends the wrong message to the women of Bromley.
Clearly the glass ceiling is well and truly embedded in Bromley’s Civic Centre.
