Police cuts: an update

Government figures show that London has lost 1700 officers in just 18 months.

We’ve been campaigning since the summer to stop cuts to London’s police force – the extent of which Home Office data has confirmed.

At a time when violent crimes including knife crime, robbery, rape and murder have all risen, Boris has admitted 1700 London police officer posts have been cut in the last 18 months.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the number of police officers has fallen from a peak of 33,260 officers in March 2010 to just 31,478 officers in October 2011.

This time last year, he pledged to increase police numbers. Gaffes are one thing – broken promises are another.

If you didn’t catch us in Orpington, you can still sign the petition against the cuts.
