Orpington Labour Party thinks local, London, national and international

We can all sometimes feel powerless to change government policies and actions, but we can influence things if we take the trouble. Here are some of the ways that Orpington Labour Party are working for change.

Nigel de GruchyAs a result of widespread objections, Bromley Tories have been forced on to the defensive over their decisions to close youth centres and children and family centres. Following rising crime and anti-social behaviour in areas affected by such closures, the Council Leader admitted “mistakes had been made.” Orpington Labour Party was one of several organisations formally submitting objections.

We have distributed thousands of leaflets in Cray Valley highlighting the effect on the area of the broken promises of the Tory dominated Coalition Government.

Orpington Labour Party has been canvassing hard on the doorsteps and running a stall in the High Street on Saturday mornings. Our petition calling on London Mayor Boris John to reverse cuts in police numbers has received hundreds of signatures.

Ken Livingston in Orpington with members of Orpington Labour PartyAll Labour groups in Bromley, including Orpington, are receiving support from the London Region of the Labour Party in the campaign to re-elect Ken Livingstone as Mayor in next year’s election.

We wrote to Orpington MP Jo Johnson objecting to government plans to worsen public sector pensions. Our motion said that all pensions should be protected.

We have submitted a resolution to the Labour Party Conference calling for the leadership to campaign for sensible global regulations to stop ‘dysfunctional markets’ wrecking the lives of millions of people all over the world.
