Orpington Labour Party

Labour Rose

Sheila Barker, 3 June 1931 to 18 June 2011

My good friend, Sheila, suffered a major stroke the day before her 80th birthday from which she never recovered.

Sheila was a life long member of The Labour Party and for many years treasurer of the South Orpington branch. On election days Sheila was always to be found "manning" the local polling stations for hours on end.

She was involved in many good causes from managing the Traidcraft stall every month at the local church, active in Orpington CND, Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, The Children’s Society and The Mothers Union.

She carried out numerous tasks for her church, coffee making, hospitality, key holding, flower arranging and cleaning. She was always there for people.

Best of all she was the kindest and most encouraging person you could possibly meet. I have lost a dear friend and Orpington Labour Party has lost a good comrade.
