Help Support Victims of Sexual Violence

It is estimated that 300,000 women are raped or subjected to a serious sexual assault every year. Conviction rates for attackers have fallen from 33 per cent in the 1970s to around 5 per cent today. Yet funding for Rape Crisis centres is falling and centres are closing. Please sign the e-petition at the Downing Street web site to press for better funding.

The number of Rape Crisis centres in England has nearly halved from 68 to 38 since 1984. Women often have to wait three months for an appointment and the centres now have combined waiting lists of 5.3 years. Long term, secure funding for Rape Crisis centres in England would cost just £6m.

As well as signing the e-petition you can write to your MP urging them to sign the early-day motion tabled by Lynne Featherstone MP.
